Chocolate Chess Pie Recipe With Graham Crackers

This Chocolate Chess Pie is a great choice for chocolate pie lovers. It’s almost like a brownie with a pie crust. It’s a great tradition! I made it with a graham cracker pie crust.

Chocolate Chess Pie Recipe With Graham Crackers

Directions

The pie will be very large if it is made using a standard 9-inch pie plate, as the photos show. It is best to bake it on a cookie sheet, so it doesn’t spillover. A 10-inch pie plate is fine but no smaller than 9. A 9-inch deep-dish pie pan can also be used.

The crust should be baked. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Blend the graham crackers until you get a fine crumb. You can also place the graham crackers in a large Ziploc bag that is large enough to hold a lot of crumbs and then roll them using a rolling pin.

In a mixing dish, combine the sugar and butter. Place the mixture in a 9-10″ pie plate or 9-inch deep-dish pan. Press down on the bottom. Bake for 10 minutes or until set.

To make the filling, melt the butter and chocolate in a medium bowl. I melted the chocolate in the microwave. You can alternatively melt the chocolate in a bowl over hot water in a saucepan.

After the chocolate has melted, add the flour, sugar, and vanilla. Mix in the eggs one at a while, then add the egg whites. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth. If using, stir in the peanut butter cups.

Place mixture in prepared crust. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until the top is puffy and filling is set in the center. Allow cooling.
Serve at room temperature. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or both. Note that I make pretty slices by chilling my pies for a few hours before I cut them. This is the key to perfect slices!

Recipe Notes

For other combinations, you can substitute peanut butter cups with chocolate chips or nuts.

Chocolate Chess Pie Recipe With Evaporated Milk

This has the perfect creamy, chocolatey, and rich filling. I also love the crispy crust that forms during baking.

With whipped topping, chocolate chess pie served on a plate

It is so easy to make. Mix all ingredients and then pour into prepared pie dough.

I prefer to use pre-made, rolled-up pie crusts when it comes to the pie crust. This allows me to use my own crust, but it doesn’t require me to make a homemade one – which is something I love. The pre-made frozen crusts are equally good. If you are a pro at baking, you can also make your own crust if you have the time.

Be aware that aluminum pan crusts from the grocery store can be fragile. To make it easy, place the crust in a small baking dish before you fill it.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 (5-ounce) can evaporate milk
  • 1 unbaked (9-inch) pie crust (homemade or store-bought).
  • Whipped cream, if desired

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Mix together the sugar, cocoa powder, and cornstarch in a large bowl. Mix in the egg beater, melted butter, and milk. Add vanilla. Mix well.

Place the mixture in the unbaked pie crust. Be careful not to overfill. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the crust is completely set. The pie will retain some jiggle. Allow for thorough cooling before slicing and serving. This will allow the mixture to set more. Add a dab of whipped cream on top if desired.

Tips

Place the pie in the refrigerator for a few hours if it turns too liquidy after cooling. It will be set up quickly.

A few store-bought pie crusts come with aluminum pans that are quite fragile. Place the pie shell on a baking sheet to make it easy to transfer the pie

Use a pre-made, frozen crust in an aluminum pan.
