  • Wash and cut tomatoes into small cubes with a sharp knife.
  • Place the cubed tomatoes in a mixing bowl.
  • Add buttermilk, cornmeal, all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
  • Mix and coat the cubed green tomatoes with the cornmeal mixture.
  • Pour vegetable oil into a cast-iron skillet and heat over medium heat.
  • Drop tomatoes into hot oil, and fry for 2 minutes on each side or until golden.
  • To drain, place the cooked tomatoes on paper towels.
