In a pot, add water and bring to a boil.
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Put 2 tsp of olive oil on each side or each little area of your cornbread skillet.
On the stove, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
In a mixing bowl combine the self-rising cornmeal with about 3/4 to 1 cup of hot water.
To combine, carefully whisk everything together. The batter should be pourable.
Add more water until the mixture has a thick texture.
Water levels will vary depending on the corn meal.
Begin with less and add more as needed.
When the oil in the skillet starts to smoke just a little bit, turn off the heat.
Put hot water cornbread batter in equal parts in the skillet.
Put the skillet in the preheated oven middle rack.
bake until the cornbread upside is a little bit golden brown.
Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for some time.
