  • In a pot, add water and bring to a boil.
  • Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Put 2 tsp of olive oil on each side or each little area of your cornbread skillet.
  • On the stove, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
  • In a mixing bowl combine the self-rising cornmeal with about 3/4 to 1 cup of hot water.
  • To combine, carefully whisk everything together. The batter should be pourable.
  • Add more water until the mixture has a thick texture.
  • Water levels will vary depending on the corn meal.
  • Begin with less and add more as needed.
  • When the oil in the skillet starts to smoke just a little bit, turn off the heat.
  • Put hot water cornbread batter in equal parts in the skillet.
  • Put the skillet in the preheated oven middle rack.
  • bake until the cornbread upside is a little bit golden brown.
